Replying to reviews is one of the most direct ways to build a relationship with your users. It thanks the people who love your app and wins back the ones who had a bad experience, but only if the replies go out in time and address what each user said. Working through the queue one review at a time takes a while. Your AI assistant can find the reviews that still need an answer, put them in order, and draft replies in your team’s voice, while you stay in control of what gets posted. In this article, you’ll learn how this works, how to ask for it, and what happens before anything is posted.
Overview
When you ask your assistant to help with replies, it:
- Builds a queue of reviews without a reply, ordered by rating and by how long they've been waiting, so the most urgent ones come first
- Drafts a reply for each review that responds to what that review actually says
- Matches your team's tone by reading the replies you've already posted
- Separates spam and abuse from genuine feedback, with a reason for each, so they can be reported to the store instead of answered
- Waits for your approval before posting a reply or submitting a report
Why timing matters
The sooner you reply, the more likely the user is to see it and update their review. AppFollow's Reply Effect counts review updates that happen within 30 days of your reply, so replying early gives each user more time to come back. That's why the queue puts the oldest low-rated reviews near the top.
Nothing is posted or reported without your approval
The assistant always shows you the exact reply it's about to post, or the exact report it's about to submit, and waits for you to approve it. You can edit a draft, skip a review, or approve several replies at once. Replies are posted to the store through AppFollow, the same way as when you reply from the Reviews Feed.
Posting replies and submitting reports requires an Owner or Admin role in AppFollow, and the matching connection for that platform. Other roles can still use the assistant to find reviews and draft replies.
Reporting spam and abuse
Some negative reviews aren't feedback at all. They break store policy, so they should be reported instead of answered. The assistant checks your queue for these, explains why each one should be reported, and leaves everything else in your reply queue.
| Report type | Example |
|---|---|
| Spam | Promotes an external site or offer and isn't about the app |
| Offensive content | Insults or hostility aimed at your team, with no product feedback |
| Off-topic | Unrelated to the app, such as a question about something else entirely |
| Other | Breaks store policy in another way, with the reason explained |
An unfair or harsh review isn't reportable on its own. If it's real feedback about your app, it stays in the reply queue, even if you disagree with it.
Before anything is sent, the assistant shows a report preview listing each review, its report type, and the reason. Reports are submitted only after you confirm.
How to ask
Once AppFollow MCP is connected to your AI assistant, you can ask in plain language. For example:
Find the negative reviews from last week that still need an answer, draft replies, and post them once I approve.More things to ask
- "How many 1- and 2-star reviews from the last 14 days still have no reply?"
- "Draft replies for these 8 reviews, matching the tone of the last 20 replies we sent."
- "Post the approved replies."
- "Report this review to Google Play as spam and explain why."

F.A.Q.
What do I need to report reviews through the assistant?
Reporting uses AppFollow's Report a Concern feature, which is available on some plans and needs its own connection. See App Store Connect: Invite User and Google Play: Report a Concern Data Connection for setup.
What if the assistant gets the tone wrong?
Tell it what to change, for example "shorter and less formal" or "always offer our support email." You can also point it to specific past replies you'd like it to follow.
Can I use my reply templates?
Yes. Paste the template into the conversation and ask the assistant to adapt it to each review.
