Knowing who your competitors are is the easy part. Knowing where they outrank you and where their users are unhappy is what you can act on. Your AI assistant can put together a full competitor profile in one conversation: keyword positions, search presence, ratings, and the complaints their users repeat most. In this article, you'll learn what a competitor profile includes, how to ask for one, and how to use what it finds.
Overview
A competitor profile brings together:
- Keyword comparison: Their position on every keyword you track, side by side with yours, naming the exact terms where they outrank you and by how much
- Live search results: The current top 10 for your core terms, which surfaces apps in your category you aren't tracking yet
- Ratings: Their ratings trend and star mix
- Recurring complaints: The issues their users mention most, with quotes from real reviews
This is a read-only request. Nothing in your account changes.
Why the complaints matter
A competitor's recurring complaints are a list of promises you can keep and they currently can't. If your app handles those well, that's what to highlight in your screenshots, description, and review replies. The quotes give you users' own words to work with.
How to ask
Once AppFollow MCP is connected to your AI assistant, you can ask in plain language. For example:
Build me a profile of [competitor]: what they rank for, where they beat us, and what their users complain about.More things to ask
- "For the 10 keywords we care about most, show our position vs [competitor]'s in the US."
- "Top 5 complaints in [competitor]'s Google Play reviews over the last 60 days?"
- "Which apps appear in the top 10 for our core keywords that we don't track as competitors?"
- "Compare our rating trend against [competitor]'s over the last 6 months."

F.A.Q.
Does the competitor need to be tracked in AppFollow?
For the full profile, it should be. Live search results work for any app, but keyword positions come from what's tracked in your workspaces. Owners and Admins can ask the assistant to add a competitor. The assistant shows what it will add and waits for your confirmation before anything changes.
Why are some review insights missing?
Some review analysis features depend on your AppFollow plan. Without them, the assistant still reads the review text directly, so you'll still get the complaint summary.
Can I profile several competitors at once?
Yes, but it uses more credits. Start with one, then ask for a side-by-side with others once you know what you're looking for.
