Your keyword rankings only tell part of the story. To understand your app's visibility, you also need to know where it ranks in store charts, how it performs across categories and countries, and what changed in your app or a competitor's right before a rank moved. AppFollow's store visibility tools give you that wider view of the stores. In this article, you'll learn what each tool does, where to find it, and how to use them together.

Overview

Three tools under the ASO menu cover store visibility:

Tool Where to find it What it answers
Top chart rankings ASO > Store analytics > Top chart rankings Which apps are leading the App Store charts right now?
Category ranking ASO > App discovery > Category ranking Where does my app rank in its category, and in which countries?
Update timeline ASO > App discovery > Update timeline What did my app or a competitor change, and when?

Top chart rankings

Top chart rankings shows the most popular apps in the App Store right now, across the Free, Paid, and Top-Grossing charts. You can filter by date, category, and country, and switch between iPhone and iPad.

Ranks are updated once a day, overnight in UTC. Store positions can shift several times a day, so the chart reflects the store at the time it was collected. Movement is usually more noticeable lower down the chart.

💡 For more details, see Top Chart Rankings.

Category ranking

Category ranking shows where your app ranks in its store category, and how its visibility changes across countries:

  • Worldwide view: Countries where your app is in the Top 1, Top 10, and Top 100, with gains and losses for the selected period.
  • Top growing and top losing countries: Where your app's position is improving or dropping the most.
  • App position breakdown: How many countries your app ranks in at each position.
  • Country view: Ranking history and a summary table for a single country, with chart annotations to mark events.

The Worldwide view shows free and paid category positions. To see grossing positions, select a specific country. Rankings are updated once a day.

See Category Rankings for the full walkthrough.

Update timeline

Update timeline tracks changes to your apps and your competitors' apps in one calendar, so you can connect a change in rankings to what caused it. It covers:

  • Metadata and visual updates: title, description, short description, icon, screenshots, video, price, in-app purchases, category, developer name, URL, and version
  • In-app events: name, description, dates, media, and active countries
  • Google Play featuring: when an app appeared on Google Play's main Games and Apps pages

In-app event data is available from Q3 2025 onward.

See Update Timeline for filters and examples.

How to use them together

  1. Spot a change in Category ranking, for example a drop in a key country.
  2. Open Update timeline for the same period to check whether your app or a competitor shipped a release, changed metadata, or ran an in-app event.
  3. Check Top chart rankings to see which apps moved up in that category and country.
